Pregnancy Tests
Written by James Black
The purpose of pregnancy tests is not just to know if you are pregnant but to also know it on time. This is necessary because once you know about your condition earlier then you will be able to take care of your health. Health care is necessary not just for the mother who is expecting but also the baby who is in the womb. The manner in which you take care of your health will decide the growth and the health of the baby. You will have some early signs of pregnancy.

In earlier days you could not completely trust in the results of the pregnancy tests but with advanced technology you can definitely depend on the accuracy of the tests. These testing units are available in any chemist shops and you can buy them even without any prescription. This is the first thing that will prompt you to go and meet the doctor. You should not avoid these appointments with the doctor and you should not take it lightly. The doctors are the ones who will inform you of any abnormality that exists in the pregnancy and if there are any complications. There are many kinds of pregnancy tests that are available in the markets these days.

Types of pregnancy tests

The first one is the urine test which is the most common and also convenient method for confirming pregnancy. All you need to do is to buy a pregnancy testing unit from the chemist and test for pregnancy. The procedure is simple where you need to take your urine in the cup provided and you need to dip a stick that is included in the kit for a specific time. All you need to do is to follow instructions that are clearly given on the kit and the result that you will get will be accurate most of the times. In fact it is so accurate that most of the clinics adopt the same method for checking.

Another method is when you hold a particular strip in the stream when you pass urine and you need to hold it for a specific length of time. This method is much easier and neater method. This method is usually used when you are at the earlier stage of pregnancy. The specially designed stick is capable of detecting the existence of hCG hormones that will be present the moment the embryo gets attached to the uterine wall.

The next type of test is called the pregnancy blood test and you can rely on it more than the urine tests. The purpose of this test is to check for the presence of hCG in the blood which shows that there is an attachment of the embryo to the wall of the uterine and that the placenta has begun to grow. Once the pregnancy has been confirmed the doctors have to still conduct many tests to check for the health of the baby and the woman. They will also confirm the growth of the fetus. Once these tests are conducted the doctors will prescribe vitamins that are required for both their health.

Usefulness of pregnancy tests

These tests are preferred by the people who have problems with fertility and are waiting eagerly to know if they are pregnant or not. The results through blood tests can be determined only after seven days of conceiving and therefore it is also possible to determine if there are any abnormalities with the pregnancy. These tests cannot be done at home and it requires the supervision of a doctor.

Other tests

After the pregnancy has been confirmed and having early signs of pregnancy, there are other tests like CBC which also needs to be done to check if the mother has any deficiencies or abnormalities in the blood. Other tests that follow are STD tests, RH factor tests, tests to check viral and bacteria infections as well as blood tests to check the glucose levels.

Thanks to the advanced technology the pregnancy tests have become easier and more reliable. You do not have to run to the doctor to check for pregnancy instead you can check that at your own privacy and then go to the doctor only when you have confirmed it. The pregnancy tests basically test if the hormone Human Chorionic Ginadotropin (hCG) is present. This hormone is produced in the urine after the fertilization has taken place and it is produced by the placenta. This is present in very small measures in the urine and therefore to confirm the results it is better to check only after at least 8 days after conceiving. Or ideally you should be checking only after you have missed your date of period. These pregnancy tests almost always accurate but you need to confirm its accuracy because there are many times when these results can be positive even when you are not pregnant.
